New Literature CrashCourse Series!

John and Hank Green don't just vlog on their main channel, Vlogbrothers. At the beginning of this year, they started a new YouTube channel, CrashCourse, designed to teach in an interactive and interesting way. Up to this point, Hank has been covering biology on the channel and John has been teaching world history. The videos take information that's standard in many high school classes and make it enjoyable to learn! This week marks the beginning of two new mini-series, Ecology (w/Hank) and Literature (w/John). The first Literature video (which you can watch here) sets the tone for what promises to be an engaging series. John discusses the importance of the written word and the usefulness of reading in quite a poetic way. Even for someone who has loved to read for years, his reminder of the importance of reading is powerful. The series will discuss several classics (including Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and J.D. Salinger's Catcher in the Rye), beginning with Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. For people who've already read and adored these stories, it will be fun and enlightening to revisit them with John Green. For those who've never read them, what better way is there than to go through them with John Green and CrashCourse?

Homework: Nah - Reading? Yeah!

Great teachers know that reading is essential to student achievement. What a wonderful way to incorporate the habit of reading into the minds of students. Thanks CB!

Midterm Experience 2012

Next Wednesday, January 25 The Wheatley School will host our annual midterm experience. Presenters from all around the NYC area will conduct workshops with students in a variety of ways from writing, to acting, to graphic comics and more. Two of the presenters are YA authors with highly regarded debut novels, Joshua Cohen and Caroline Bock. ( Caroline's husband is a Wheatley alum!). If you have not read their books, they are MUST reads! Both deal with issues of morality and choices, of doing the right thing. In addtion, our own esteemed Wheatley teachers will also be conducting workshops. Looking forward to it for sure!
